Can you get Breast Implants with capsular contracture removed while breastfeeding?

Question

I have capsular contracture in both breasts- they are painful and they are textured Allergen implants (which have been recalled off the market). I have high ANA levels and another high positive rheumatoid factor but cannot get diagnosed with anything. I'm starting to wonder it it's related to the implants - I have severe joint pain and ongoing hand, wrist and ankle pain - either way - I want them out to see if it helps me. But currently pregnant not wanting to wean early. Under muscle implants

Hello @Til94 thank you for your question. Is best to wait because with pregnancy and breastfeeding the breasts change because there is a hormonal change that produces changes in the body's glandular tissue. It is not possible to anticipate the changes that the breasts will have after pregnancy. Is best to wait 6 months after breastfeeding to have a breast surgery. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD FACS

When placed through an inframmary incision, the implant never really touches the breast tissue; it slides underneath it, so this approach has the least impact on the gland itself. Removing the implants and the capsules through the inframmary incision should not cause issues with breastfeeding. I would not recommend removal of the implants while pregnant.

You will need to be done with breastfeeding for 3 months and the breasts need to be dried up before undergoing surgery. Otherwise, there may be milk present and may lead to complications. Removing the implants with or without the capsules can result in decrease volume of the breasts and you may need a lift. The technique I recommend is explantation and lift using The Bellesoma Method. The implants removed, your breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. Vertical scars are avoided, nipple sensation (in 95%) and the ability to breast feed are maintained if not injured during your previous surgery.

Thank you for your questions. The bottom line is that you are going to have to decide if the risks outweigh the benefits. Discuss the options with your surgeon and your anesthesia provider and see what would be best for you. In general, it is not advisable to operate on a lactating breast due to risks of bleeding, infection, and other risks due to the increased hormonal response in the tissue. The safest thing would be to wait until you are done breastfeeding to proceed with surgery or stop breastfeeding now and plan surgery in about 6 months.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to remove implants and capsules while breastfeeding. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

While the answer may technically be yes, I don't generally think it is a good idea to be doing elective surgery during pregnancy or during breast feeding.  There may be circumstances where it is more reasonable, but unlikely in this scenario.  That being said a full consultation would be necessary and I recommend you work with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.

I'm sorry to hear of the discomfort you are experiencing.  It is best that you wait until you have finished breastfeeding before having your implants removed.  From your description the procedure will require general anesthesia.

Since you stated you were pregnant, no, your implants cannot be removed now. If you are just breast feeding, you could pump and dump your milk during the time of surgery and while on drugs. It is best to wait. Plus, should you need a lift, it is best to wait until 6 months after completing breast feeding to do any surgery.

I do not feel the benefits outweigh the risks of capsulectomy while pregnant not do I think you’ll find a plastic surgeon willing to perform the procedure.
